🌊 As we celebrate World Maritime Day, let's reflect on the vital significance of our oceans. 🌍🌊
Healthy oceans are essential for our planet, helping regulate climate, supporting marine life, and providing for communities worldwide.
However, the challenge of plastic waste poses a serious threat. Plastic pollution not only stems from ongoing sources but persists in our oceans, endangering marine ecosystems and the balance of our delicate environment.
That's why, at BearingPoint, we're committed to taking action against ocean pollution. Beyond addressing pollution sources, we recognize the pressing need for clean-up efforts to tackle the lasting impact of plastic waste.
We share three global maps shedding light on this critical issue:
🗺️ Distribution of data points from NCEI's Marine Microplastics database
🗺️ Sources of waste out of Our World in Data’s dataset on mismanaged plastic
🗺️ European Citizen Science Project "Marine LitterWatch" survey data
Notably, the maps illustrate a global issue and a data availability gap, underscoring its critical relevance in shaping political decisions.
As part of our dedication to cleaner oceans, we've organized several Clean-up events (e.g. Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, Frankfurt & Hamburg) this September 🏖️🌏
Of particular note is our event in Frankfurt on 28th September which aims to gather data for the Marine Litter Watch Project 🧤 📊
Let's make waves of positive change together. Join us in safeguarding our oceans for generations to come. 🌊🤝
